Art Taylor
President & CEO, Monterey Advisors
Art has twenty-five years of experience in the medical device industry as a CEO, a COO, a CFO, and other senior level operational and financial positions for both publicly held companies and private venture capital backed firms. Art has extensive operational and leadership experience in both large and small commercial stage companies and in pre-revenue clinical or development startup companies. Sector experiences include spine, electrophysiology, ophthalmology, hearing health care, and neurology. In addition to Providence, Art currently serve as a member of the Board of Directors for Relievant, Inc. and Transcend Medical, Inc.
Jeff Smith
CEO, Providence Medical Technology
Jeff is a healthcare entrepreneur with global experience in life sciences. He co-founded Providence Medical Technology in 2008 and has served as the company’s CEO and member of the Board of Directors since its inception. Jeff was responsible for raising each of the company’s financing rounds and led the initial product development, clinical, regulatory, and commercialization efforts. Jeff is focused on the company’s Purpose, “To build a passionate team that delivers innovative spinal technology to help patients enjoy pain free lives.”
Jeff also co-founded Pacific Surgical (Philippines distributorship), Thayer Intellectual Property (extremities medical device), Kolum Inc, (spinal implant), and GreenLight Medical (hospital procurement software).
Prior to Providence, Jeff held leadership positions in sales and operations at Medtronic, Kyphon, DePuy Spine, Cardinal Health, and AstraZeneca.
Jeff is a graduate of Brown University where he earned an AB in Organizational & Behavior Management.
Eric Fritz
Partner, MVM Life Science Partners
Eric joined MVM in 2019. Before joining, he was an engagement manager at McKinsey & Company where he served pharmaceutical and medical device clients on corporate strategy and transactions.
Eric received his PhD in Biological Sciences from Rockefeller University where his thesis research focused on applying genomic techniques to problems in immunology. He also holds an AB summa cum laude in chemistry from Harvard.
David Cash
Principal, Stanmore Medical Investments
David is a member of the investment committee and works with SMI portfolio companies to determine strategic goals, implement marketing strategy and manage human resources.
David founded Stanmore Development, a leading regional real estate development firm specializing in healthcare assets in 2006 where he currently serves as President. Under David’s leadership, Stanmore Development delivered approximately 250,000 square feet of medical office buildings throughout the southeast. Prior to founding the Stanmore Companies, David worked as a financial analyst at CIBC World Markets’ Investment Banking Division.
David graduated from Colgate University where he played lacrosse. He received an MBA from the Darden School at the University of Virginia in 2006. He currently resides in Jupiter, Florida.
Robert Thomas
Venture Partner, Aphelion Capital
Robert W. Thomas has over 20 years of successful operational experience in the life sciences industry. Robert currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for several healthcare companies, as well as serving on the Board for several non-profit organizations. Prior to his Board work, Robert served as the CEO of Fox Hollow Technologies and led the company from 12 employees in start-up mode through a successful public offering with over $200M in annualized revenue and a $1B market capitalization. Prior to FoxHollow, Robert served as Vice-President of Operations for Conceptus, and before that was a founder of TMP, Inc, a privately financed medical device start-up company. TMP was acquired in September 1992, by a current division of GE Healthcare, and Robert stayed on as Vice President for the TMP division through February 1998. Prior to TMP, Robert was a founder of Access Devices (acquired by Baxter Healthcare). Robert received a B.A. in Economics from Ursinus College.
Fred Lee
Fred is a Partner at Revelation Partners.
With over sixteen years of healthcare experience, Fred focuses on identifying and leading new investment opportunities, as well as managing the firm’s industry relationships. Since joining Revelation Partners in 2018, Fred has invested over $100 million across all healthcare subsectors, including healthcare technology, medical devices, and diagnostics.
Fred’s recent investments include Headspace Health, Cityblock, Akili, Honor, SomaLogic, and Synthego.
Prior to Revelation Partners, Fred was a Managing Director in the Life Sciences Group at Bridge Bank, where he executed venture debt investments across all healthcare sectors. Fred began his career in the Healthcare Investment Banking group at Citi, where he advised on a number of M&A and financing transactions for both public and private healthcare clients.
Fred received a BS in Business Administration and BA in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley.
When not working with healthcare companies and investors, Fred enjoys running, playing basketball, and snowboarding. He lives in Orinda, California, with his wife and two young children.
